Biking around Salt Spring for this beauty's 44th birthday!!!

We just had the best day ....

Up the hill from the ferry when we offloaded was the Salt Spring Cidery .....  we packed it in our bags and brought it along for our lunch ....

Sunny and beautiful and couldn't ask for better company ...

Our old friend Grant lives on Salt Spring and found us on the beach ... we had been texting saying we were soon going to stop by to say hi, but we just couldn't leave the sunny beach ... so he surprised us by finding us himself .....

It had been on her bucket list for awhile to bike around Salt Spring since they got the electric bikes, but it just hadn't happened ... so she was smiling for the whole day ... so happy ... it was nice.

Adventure buddy ....

I know ... we are total dorks ...

Rotary Club of Duncan’s Student of the Month Award for February 2021

Leadership lands Student of the Month Award for Lake Cowichan’s Isaac Burdge

'We're very proud of Isaac. He's perfect for the award'

As Isaac Burdge stands outside Lake Cowichan School talking with the presenters of the Rotary Club of Duncan’s Student of the Month Award for February, it becomes clear immediately that he’s not just an ordinary student.

Other students file past on their way out the door and home, and many of them, of all ages, say hi or wave to Burdge.

As teacher Sean Battye attests, Burdge, who is in Grade 11, is well-known throughout the student body, from grades 4 to 12.

Burdge has emerged as a leader among students at LCS, and that’s not an accident.

He explains as he gestures toward another student nearby, “When I was his age, I didn’t have anyone to look up to like that. I just treat everyone the way I want to be treated.”

It’s not that Burdge was bullied or anything. He just didn’t have any role models at the school.

“I was treated fine. I just never had anyone to look up to,” he explained. “I thought, ‘I want to be that guy.'”

A self-described “quiet kid” in Grade 8, Burdge had an epiphany the following summer.

“I did a leadership program at camp and decided that’s what I wanted to do,” he said.

He now has his sights set on obtaining a degree in child and youth care, and maybe becoming a youth pastor. He’s already been training informally at Camp Imadene, where he lives, and where his dad is the program director. Burdge became a full-time staff member last year after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the camp to alter its plans and offer day programs instead of having campers stay on site.

In addition to his leadership efforts, Burdge is visible at the school as photographer for the journalism class, and started helping out with the lunch program when he noticed that one person had to do it all by herself.

That’s not to mention his academic efforts.

“As a teacher, he’s great to have in the classroom,” Battye said. “He’s always adding to classroom discussions.”

Battye taught Burdge last semester in Genocide 12, and has him this semester in his Socials 11 and Law 12 classes.

“I’m looking forward to having him in Social Justice 12 next year,” Battye added.

When it came time for staff members at LCS to name the Student of the Month for February, Burdge was a no-brainer.

“It was instant when we heard the criteria,” Battye said. “We’re very proud of Isaac. He’s perfect for the award.

“You wouldn’t have one staff member who would disagree with what I said.”

The feelings are mutual, as Burdge has a deep appreciation for the LCS staff.

“The teachers here are phenomenal,” he said.

Burdge was pleased to get recognition from his school.

“It means a lot to me,” he said. “It shows that I guess I’m doing something right.”

Kayaking and bonfires ....

It was a beautiful day out ... time to gather the family and do something fun ....

We put the kayaks into Bear Lake and planned to kayak some of the canals ....

Turned out the water was too shallow for us to paddle through ... so we made it to the Big Lake and turned around ....

After we packed up the kayaks we headed to our bubble family ... who wasn't home yet from their own adventures ... so Chris napped while we waited ....

When they got back, Shannon and I took a walk to her neighbors Labrinth ....

Was time for a fire ... actually, it's always time for a fire ... lots of them during this past Covid year ...

Happy Birthday Carrie!!

I tried to make it all the way to Kelowna after my post office shift, but I got off the ferry around 5:30 and by 8:30, I was so tired ... so Trish told me about the update Coast Hotel down the road from her place when I dropped off earrings for her tonight...we had a quick little visit on her driveway in front of her new house, so good to see her face...even from a distance ... and then I headed to the hotel.

I also had earrings for Aisha that I hit in Harry's hand here in Hope.... I also left a drink and snacks under the statue ....

Which she found a few hours later on her scavenger hunt!!

I met the family in the Shuswaps to see Carrie's new boat!!!  It a beauty!!!

Happy birthday beautiful!!  Gotta wear shades now!!  Man, I miss laughing with her ... we laughed alot on our little secret visit ....

We both worked this week ... and had some nice quiet evenings ...

I took a break from work on afternoon to go see Jack and Ellie and we went for a bike ride ... Ellie didn't last too long but Jack took me to the Eco Centre and we sat in the sun and chatted ... i loved it.

Bike ride around the lake!

Dad waxed and detailed my car on my last day ... it had never been waxed!  I don't want to let the kids in my car now .... he did such a nice job ... I just loved driving in it !!

When I got home, Isaac was very excited about these outfits Nona found at thrift ... he is going to have alot of fun with these outfits this summer .... glad he has 2 so he can find a friend to be funny with ...
