Last night, around 11pm, Elliot came down with a wicked case of the croup--he couldn't breath and it really freaked him out (granted) and it scared the living daylights out of us. A similar case happened last year around the same time...but we called an ambulance last time. During that horrible ride to the hospital with our little guy having trouble breathing, we learned that the paramedics couldn't do anything for him unless he passed out! (Wha???). So, this year, Chris and i just went between the steam shower and outside and tried to wait it out.
It was horrible.....he would lean on our chest, sucking as much air in as he could, which was so minimal and then freak out because he couldn't breath. We ran out of hot water and i ran to get the O2 tank from the nurses station if it came to that. It's almost 11pm the night after the horrible night and i have been humbled. I am blessed and every day is such a gift.
Chris and i were talking - well, more like breezed over the subject because it's too painful to think about, about how awful our lives would be if anything happened to Elliot. After a night like last night, we easily got a quick view of how bad things can get so fast! But we were thinking about how it would change Isaac forever if something happened to his baby Elliot. We think he would totally lose that spark that makes him isaac....and it set fear into us.
So......i am thankful, and feel really spoiled to have these 3 wonderful boys in my life. How lucky am i?
