A true Thanksgiving at the Burdges 2019

Isaac was excited to get to grandma's because she told him he could learn the trumpet on her trumpet.  This trumpet was her great grandfathers, who passed it down to his son, who past it on to her...who has now passed it to Isaac to learn on.

He was pretty pleased....and please note Elliot in the background ..

It was so nice to see her in such good spirits tonight ... everyone was thankful for this as we went around the table .... she has the best smiley face....

Trent up to his antics again ... grossing out the resident eldest child while she tries to keep texting...she didn't appreciate the bowl of mixed food he was eating close to her face ....

I had Trent make him a shirt to celebrate his favorite thing to do ....

Gordon is amazing ... here he is cutting our pies for dessert....

I wanted a quick picture before we left for the evening ....

It grew into chaos ..... here is Gordon starting the shenanigans ....

Please note Chris and my faces ... lol ....

And Maisy continuing the chaos with a little pee in front of us all....

But then she posed really nice for the picture with the rest of the family and the other dog .... pee pad included .. man we laughed ... got to love it.

Trent finally was able to be quick enough to make the picture .... well sort of ...

Happy Thanksgiving .....

Every Single Day

Day in Victoria

We woke the kids up early to take them up to see the sunrise.

Isaac was cool with it .... Elliot?  Not so much.
We went home and Chris went back to bed while the rest of us relaxed for a few hours.  Then we headed to Victoria for lunch at the Spaghetti Factory.  I love this place.  But the last time we were here, the kids shared meals and the bill was way cheaper.  We won’t be back again for awhile but it was yummy.

Then we hustled to the theatre where Chris and I saw Downton Abbey and the boys went to see Abominable.   On the way home we picked up a fooseball table for camp.

Glass Tiger ...

Remember glass tiger?  Good times from my childhood.  Turns out the lead singer wants to follow my insta!  :-). Took a screen shot before I said no.  What a kick.

Wednesday- still home together ...

Elliot doesn’t appear to be improving very much. Still coughing and sleeping a lot during the day so I took him for bloodwork this morning.  If something is up, good to know before the long weekend.  But he does seem a little better this afternoon, but still. Glad to have gotten it done.

I worked from home today and at one point couldn’t remember the last time I had heard Elliot so I went looking for him.  Found him cuddled up with mittens beside him. Very cute. Such good buddies. Mittens has been limping for a few days.  She doesn’t seem bothered by it, but we’re all pretty concerned.  We thought maybe the hoverboard got her back foot but then Isaac said he thought he may have gotten her tail. Not her back foot, so we’re hoping she will get better soon.  Otherwise it’s off to the vet.

Isaac keeps this sign in his pocket now since teachers have taken to locking students out of their classrooms if they are late.  Isaac wasn’t late here but getting wood for his woodshop table project but the door locked behind him.  Luckily he had his sign.

See what I mean?  He’s looking better.  But then he has these crazy coughing fits .... would be nice to be better soon ....

On the mend .... right?

He is still sleeping the afternoons away ..... I hope his body is busy healing during all these naps.

The best part of this bad chapter is all the time elliot and I are spending together.  Lots of movies together on the couch and in the bedroom.  He’s been on the floor beside me here now since middle of September when Isaac went down. He didn’t want to sleep in his room for fear of getting sick from his brother (insert eye roll).... too late for that. And Chris has been on the couch for a solid 10 days. He sleeps in the curve (no idea how he does that but his neck is out tonight but still he refuses to come back to bedroom where Elliot and I have made our coughing lair lol.

I’ve also started with the tea.  I seem to like earl grey.

Evenings are spent making little pink jackets for little bany girls we don’t know ....

Or giraffes we do know!!

This chapter can be over soon. But I am hearing more and more how hard it can be to kick pneumonia. And we are on day 10, day 4 of antibiotics so we really can’t complain. We are comfortable and together and it won’t last forever. What more do we need?

Day 5 - 7 .... and we’re still down!!

We waited a week for Isaac before bringing him to the Dr.....so we knew not to wait as long with Elliot (and myself) ..... so we both were able to get into our Dr when I called Tuesday morning .... Tuesday was 3 days of being pretty sick already.

After examining both of us, Dr. Henderson gave me a chest x-ray requisition for Elliot though she thought his lungs sounded clear, but if he didn't perk up by the next day, then I should bring him in ... I, too, got the all clear too ....

One morning I was up early....I went and watched the sunrise on the dock .... then I went back to bed.

Typical view around here these days ....

Mittens has been a close companion to Elliot .... I think she always is, but it's more noticeable since he's been around me alot more lately ... hence I see Mittens more too....

Sucks to be sick and still have to feed us too .... but this meal has been a pretty big staple .... Elliot and I ate this in bed together .... been kindof nice being sick together ....

I was still unsure by Thursday .... but both of our coughs were getting worse, and we were both still pretty lethargic ... so Darlene encouraged me to take him to the hospital for the chest x-ray.  So, I did.  Turns out Marg was in the hospital at that time with a virus herself, so I stopped by the school and snagged Isaac so our healthy child could visit her while we were getting Elliots chest x-ray.

Results came back today ... Pneumonia .... and since my symptoms are just like Elliots, Dr Henderson sent a prescription for both of us .... I love living in a small community ... we get to talk to our Dr. on the phone, she calls in it to a pharmacist who knows us by name through camp, and we are all dialed in by 5;30.  We got sushi for Isaac and miso soup for Elliot and I ...

Today while Isaac was at school,  Elliot and I packed up Mittens and walked down to the gym to see what Chris was up to ....

Mittens was impressed ....

Elliot and Chris played with the new Mario Kart racing cars ....

8:30 and Elliot and I were back in bed .... shortly after 9 and after watching some Shrek together, Elliot fell asleep beside me here again .... now Isaac is here eating a waffle and we're watching Ferris Buellers Day off ....

Day 2....we’re both down ...

His switch game is beside him, but he hasn’t touched it much these last few days.  He and I have both gotten levelled by a sickness.

We rotate between this position all over the house.

We sent Isaac and Isaiah down for dinner with Chris and when he told Elliot there were macaroons, Elliot got all excited!!  So Isaac brought him a one in full style. Lol. Elliot took a bite and since he’s sick, didn’t actually like it.

It’s 8pm and we’ve missed Jim and Sarah’s Farewell dinner.  Sorry to miss it but if either of us have pneumonia, then we can be pretty contagious.  So now after sleeping all, we’ve had a piece of French toast (first solid food of the day) and we’re watching Shaun the sheep.  Hope tommorow is better.

Sickness .... it continues ...

Here is Elliot, encouraging his brother to do the scavenger hunt he prepped for him while he was sick.  He hasn’t been well enough to attempt it but he finally did and it sure was fun to watch him run around the house figuring out the hints.

And I should have known somethting was up when Elliot came back from the qwanoes youth night and curled up on my lap.  He forgot a sweater and was so cold but now that is Sunday and he never did perk up after this picture....

Chris has been mushroom picking a ton .... his happy place.  This was one of his biggest ones!  He fried it up last night with butter and spices. So good.

And he’s off again ....

And this is how he is spending his Sunday.  Next to the heater in our bathroom with Mittens keeping guard.

If I’m honest, I too am feeling achy now.  Let’s see how we go tommorow....please let it pass me by!!

He’s on the mend!!!!

So about a week ago, when Isaac was really sick, Elliot made him a scavenger hunt.  Up until today, he has been too sick. But here he is! Clue by clue, we followed him around the house as he figured out the hints on each piece of paper that his brother hid.

It was really cute to watch! Isaac finished the hunt, and the final clue was go see Elliot for your prize. To which Elliot responded “I haven’t figured that part out yet.”

So a funny story that Isaac had when he came home from school today was one of his teachers in the early days of school, told the kids that he was Batman and nobody better fool around in his class.  So fast forward to today, and Isaac was yelling through the door at his friends who needed to get into the classroom “what’s the password“, so this teacher comes along and says you are being really loud, and started chewing him out a little bit.  Keep in mind this is a teacher who doesn’t know Isaac very well yet, and he’s legitimately angry with how disruptive Isaac is being with his friends. At the end of the lecture, the teacher looks at Isaac and says so what do you have to say?   He responds by saying, “I’m going to be quieter, because you’re Batman and I’m the joker.”  The teacher looks at him for a minute, pauses and then says “that’s brilliant...... “but I’m not gonna tell you that’s brilliant because I don’t know you that well yet.”

Just a few up things around here these days ....

A couple of upsides .... Isaac is on the mend ... he made it until 2pm at school today before standing in the woodshop took it out of him and he called Chris to pick him up.  Elliot is happy right now with all the coding he is learning to do in minecraft ... he loves to tell chris and I all the exciting new codes that he has made up and what they can do within his minecraft world.  He glides around on the hoverboard all day long, playing with Mittens and coding .... and me?  I have been enjoying taking the bus while our car has been in the shop this whole last week.  A $200 job turned into a $2000 job ... so I have been busing home from work and really enjoying the experience of being more in community .... thinking of how I can continue it .... and as for Chris?  With all this rain, my beautiful man makes me a scarf, every night .... i think this one may be my favorite so far.  And it is 10:30pm, and the laugh that he has when he watches the office with the kids...makes me laugh too .... he's got the best laugh when he authentically thinks something is hilarious or really awkward....it's like a giggle that is absolutely awesome.

And this was another screen to wake up to the other day that made me smile;

Sunday afternoon.

Another day at home.  We are all finding our own space. Chris is organizing his room and here is my new space.
I’m doing some “lettering”.... and some reading and my boy came in for quick visit.

Pneumonia

It is the first full day of antibiotics .... I stayed in bed with him all morning .... he was up for a few hours this morning but was back to sleep by 9am .... Mandy was here at camp doing makeup for a wedding that is here today.  So we had coffee this morning and then Amanda and I walked at noon, and Isaac was still sleeping, so Elliot took my place in bed to watch over Isaac.  This afternoon we had a lot of people over who hung out between the ceremony and the reception ... a 3 hour gap, and not much to do ..... so we fed them and sat around a fire ....

Once they all left for the reception dinner, we all went back to our corners .... Chris brought in mushroom soup that he made ..... we watch the office .... and here we all are....biding our time till there is no more pneumonia ....
