It was a beautiful day and the boys were able to enjoy the waterfront for a little bit before it was time to hike with the family.
This was Isaac's idea; picnic on the dock!!
We were all on the road by 3!!!Almost there!!
The climb up to the final leg of the mountain was too much for Mike and Laura's car to handle, so Trent dropped off Marg and Gordon at the top with us and went back down to ferry up the rest of Mikes family.
The sun was shining and the boys passed the time by throwing rocks at the rock wall.
As a side note, this was one of the most popular workshops at WOA this past May. It's not often that you walk around a site where a plane has crashed and many of the pieces are still there. It's actually pretty surreal and sad and incredible to see the space between all the pieces of this plane ... it must have been a huge explosion!!!
On the last part of the mountain road, there was bear scat every 5 feet for a while! We all felt quite a bit safer because Trent brought his rifle. However, Trent and Gordon and Chris took off up the mountain and left the women and children behind with no comment of where they were going! AND they took the gun! (but we had the kids, so I guess that counts as really loud noise makers?)
We actually did have a nice time just hanging out in the sun with the kids but after awhile it was enough.... So I laid on the horn. It echoed through the forest pretty good. They were back with us pretty quick after that. Trent never did get a chance to put his gun away:
Lol... Can you see Isaac covering his mouth as grandma was taking her shot? The gun was being put away after all the adults had a turn ... But Isaac, Wren and Ava wanted a turn too!!!
So, with a quick lesson and a parent behind plugging ears .... They all took their first shot!!
Isaac liked it ....
Ava wasn't happy with the kickback .... She was kindof grumpy after saying it was a bigger jolt than she was expecting.
When we got back to our place, Chris and I hustled to get dinner ready because, as always, these outings always take longer than planned when Chris is involved! ;-) Marg and Gordon brought the best tasting ribs!! So, those were thrown both in the oven and on the BBQ (with the new grilling mat that we love, called the Cookina) .... and Chris whipped up a big caesor salad ... we were eating in no time. Jenny and Trent missed out on a feast, but it was a nice night ...low key and relaxing.
Kids had a good time .... cousins have such a special relationship, don't they? Something about blood relatives .... I don't know ... I just love watching them play together.
Chris had been wanting to take his dad up to the plane crash site, so I am glad the day came to fruition ... he sure loves his dad and I bet they both wish they could spend more time together and not be so incredibly busy in their real lives .... but when we are all together .. its good. Gordon is the most kind hearted, sweet men I know .... happy to be in his family.
